A TYPICAL DAY AT PORTILLO
Sleep as late as you'd like -
the slopes are right outside the door and with so few guests there's no
hurry to be the first one on the slopes. There will be no lift lines! The
skies are deep blue and the sun is warm and bright. The lake is breathtaking.
Breakfast is served in the dining room until 10am. If you're later than 10,
you'll find bread, coffee and juice available at the living room coffee bar
until noon.
The lifts operate from 9am to
4:30pm on the Juncalillo side, and 5pm on the Plateau side. Group lessons
begin at 10:30am. Even advanced skiers should take at least one lesson; one,
because lessons are a lot of fun; two, because our instructors can show you
the mountain’s secret powder stashes and top runs; and three, because our
ski school is staffed by a select team from around the world.
Come in for lunch around 1pm.
Sit at your usual table and your waiter will serve you a delicious, hearty
lunch. You might just want to kick back on the wraparound sundeck for awhile
before going back out, or even skip skiing in the afternoon and go straight
to the heated pool.
Make plans for tomorrow to
have lunch at Tío Bob's slopeside restaurant, where you can dine overlooking
the shimmering lake. The view at Tío Bob's is so spectacular, it’s easy to
spend the entire afternoon up there. For guests that stay for the full ski
week, from Saturday to Saturday, we invite you to a free lunch at Tio Bob’s.
Your invitation will be delivered to your room.
After making some afternoon
turns, store your gear and head up to the dining room for onces, or high
tea, from 5pm - 6pm. We recommend that you take advantage of onces,
especially if you are accustomed to dining early during your non-vacation
life.
Dinner at Portillo, as in all
of Chile, is served late, at 8:30 (first seating) and 9:30 (second seating).
Many of our North American guests find that when they get into the Chilean
custom of eating a snack at onces, they find the dining hours very agreeable.
Between tea and dinner there
are many options to occupy your time. Check out the gymnasium to see if
there is a volleyball or soccer tournament to join; take a yoga class; get a
massage; have your hair done. Or relax with a book in the living room; play
a backgammon game; send an e-mail from our Internet room; hang out in the
swimming pool or Jacuzzi; watch a movie or simply take a nap.

TIME TO GET READY FOR DINNER
Hotel Portillo does not have a dress code, but you will likely feel most comfortable wearing nice, casual clothes to dinner. Chile is a little more formal when it comes to dress, and dinners are often social events, so you’ll want to dress accordingly.
Meet your new and old friends in the bar before dinner for a Pisco Sour, the legendary - and potent! - Chilean cocktail. The live piano music keeps the bar's pre-dinner ambiance light - and the head bartender keeps the pisco sours, wine, and beer flowing.

HEAD TO THE DINING ROOM
PRINCIPAL
Sit back and relax, relive your day, enjoy delicious cuisine and soak up the wonderful ambiance of our elegant, leather-panelled dining room. After dinner, have a coffee or after-dinner drink in the living room and then head back to the bar to listen to the evening's band. The live music starts at 10:30pm every evening, and sometimes gets everyone on their feet dancing!
If you’re looking to keep the party going, head downstairs to the disco. Our disco often stays open late into the night. Then it’s off to bed for another day…

YOUR KIDS ARE IN GOOD HANDS
If you come to Portillo with kids, it’s still possible to do everything mentioned above. Kids often occupy themselves in the game room, the gymnasium, with one of our daily kids activities, or simply hanging out with other kids. Parents can relax knowing their kids are safe and truly enjoying themselves in the same building. We offer free daycare from 9:00am to 8:00pm for children ages 3-7. Childcare for those under the age of 3 and private babysitting is also available at an additional charge.

THE WEEKLY ITINERARY
During your Portillo Ski Week, you will find more than enough fun, relaxing things to do beyond great skiing and snowboarding. The following weekly itinerary offers a few ideas of what activities to expect during your stay. We post daily activities around the hotel every day.
Saturday:
Check-in is on Saturday. Arrive by minivan from the airport with your newly made friends and van companions and safely store your gear in the cinema until 2pm (when your room will be ready), while you go ahead and hit the slopes. Take a walk around the hotel if you haven't vacationed with us before, and make sure you find the game room and full-court gymnasium on the lower level; you’ll be surprised by how big they are. On Saturday evenings we offer tours of our hotel facilities; please take the tour - you'll be glad you did.
Sunday :
Sunday is the beginning of the ski school week, starting at 10:30am. Go to the ski school meeting area at around 10:15am so we can find the right instructor for you. (Kid's Camp for 3- to 6-year-olds starts at 10am.) We offer Sunday afternoon mass in the cinema. At about 7pm, our ski school director, Jesus Puente, gives an excellent and popular talk about ski techniques and equipment. Then head to our Welcome Cocktail Party in the living room. This is a good chance to get to know the other people sharing and hosting your Ski Week, while sipping a pisco sour or two!
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday :
Ski all day, take lessons or a training/guiding session. Have a few memorable lunches at Tío Bob’s, or take an afternoon off and lounge poolside. Après-ski might be a volleyball game in the gym, a workout in the fitness center, a massage, or a combo of all three. Every evening you’ll find live music in the bar and other guests who are ready to join in the fun. If you feel like keeping the party going, head to the disco and dance the night away.

Thursday :
Sign up to race in the "Sol de Portillo." The majority of our guests participate in this fun event, regardless of their skiing or snowboarding ability. Be sure not to miss our prize ceremony Thursday night at 7pm in the living room. You and your kids may have won a medal or two!
Friday :
This evening, watch our beautiful torchlight parade - or with permission from Jesus Puente our Ski School Director, join it! Friday night is a celebratory night with lots of action at the bar and the disco because the next day is the final vacation day for most of our guests.
Saturday :
If you can check-out before 10am, we will gladly store your luggage while you enjoy an 8th day of skiing for free. And last but not least, don’t forget to make plans with your new friends to meet in Portillo next year!
